Lost at Sea: An Introduction

Big Idea of Jonah: Salvation Belongs to the Lord and is yours in Jesus.

A disobedient prophet who happens also to be a Prejudiced and Nationalistic (dare we say racist) man who is called to preach to

Murderous and merciless savages, but by savages we clearly mean urbane and civilised people.

While acting disobediently our Jonah is swallowed by a sea monster of some sort who vomits him out…

And at the end of it all Jonah preaches a withholding Gospel which seems to bring salvation to “those” people and to their cows too.

3 Things to Expect in Jonah:

You should see the actions of and hear from our compassionate God.

You should see the lostness of all people but especially “God’s People”.

Repentance (a gift from God) Pleases God and judgement is removed.

How You Should Expect to be Changed:

You should be turned from Spiritual Pride.

You should seek to show compassion to others.

You should be wanting to know more about the God who bends all of creation for your Salvation.
