How We Organise

how we Organise

The Bible tells us that Jesus is our lead shepherd. He lays down his life for his sheep. He leads his sheep out of danger and sin and exile and it is to him that all other under-shepherds will give account. We know that we easily stray and turn from our Shepherd but also know he warmly carries us back into the fold ready to feed and lead us again.

the Elders

Elders, are otherwise known as Pastors, Bishops, or Overseers in the biblical text. This is a truly privileged and honoured position but not in the way the world usually thinks.

It is a role of responsibility and weight. It is to be a role of self-sacrificing care for Christ’s flock primarily through the ministry of God’s Word. It is to the Chief Shepherd (and his Sheep) that all Elders are accountable.

the Deacons

Deacon literally means servant. Someone who serves the physical needs and life of the church which are not separate from spiritual needs and life. When Deacons serve well they strengthen the whole body and spiritually encourage the entire body.

In the life of ABC Deacons will be commended by the Elders and designated by the Congregation. This role will be established when the overall shepherding work of the Elders is diminished without them.

the Congregation

Throughout Baptist history the Congregation has been the driving force behind church life. It is through the collective biblical wisdom of the “Priesthood of Believers” in local churches that decisions are made.

Each Baptist Church acts independently and yet understands that we are in fact interdependent with the Church at large in a general sense and specifically with those whom we choose to associate with. Church members are the living stones of the Church Jesus is building.
